What is Buccal Fat Removal?

Buccal Fat Removal - technically known as bichectomy - is a surgical procedure in which the buccal fat pad is removed through small incisions inside the mouth. This makes the face permanently appear slimmer, more defined, and gives it an aesthetic V-shape.

Who is suitable for this procedure?

The procedure is particularly suitable for patients with genetically rounded faces or pronounced cheek pads that persist despite diet or exercise. However, if the excess volume is more in the jaw or chin area, alternative treatments such as jawline contouring or double chin liposuction are more appropriate.

Causes of Excessive Cheek Fat

  • Genetic predisposition

  • Individual fat distribution

  • Weight gain

  • Age-related tissue changes

Treatment Process

Before Treatment

Before the operation, a thorough examination and consultation takes place. Blood-thinning medications may need to be discontinued about 10 days before the procedure.

The Operation

The operation is performed through small incisions inside the mouth. The fat pad is exposed and completely removed. The procedure takes about 30-60 minutes.

After Treatment

After the operation, cooling, rest, and soft food are recommended for a few days. Mild swelling is normal and usually subsides within a week.

When are results visible?

Results are visible immediately after treatment. Residual swelling usually disappears within a week, allowing the final result to be well assessed.

How long do results last?

The result is permanent as the buccal fat pad does not regrow. Age or weight-related changes to facial contour may occur over time but do not affect the removed tissue.
